  • Well Lene, I guess it's a sign that you've hit the big time when someone takes the time to spam your blog?

    uh... congratualtions... I guess...

Seriously, I can't wait to listen to the show. Normally I listen to podcasts on my commute in and out of the garden state, but I think I'm going to go to iTunes now and listen while I put together KK today.

Also, great job on the "roast" intro to episode 50 of Comic Geek Speak.

  • Thanks Lena for another great podcast. I enjoyed your comic shops discussion & the music by Ginger. I also enjoyed CGS intro to the legendary 50 episode of CGS.

Also, when are you going to review another trade like you did w/ Conan?

    Take Care,
    Matthew

  • Thanks, Matthew! I'm going to talk about some trades (oldies but goodies) in the next show. Doing the CGS intro was fun! I hear there may be another one in the works...

  • Hey Lene just wanted to say how i love both your podcast . and was glad to here your intro on comic geek speeks 50th any chance of doing a crossover show with those guys I think that would be so much fun to listen to but pls keep it up I was worried ther fo a sec you had given up on this cast . you are insightful and honest and a breath of fresh air in a male dominated area nice for a differn't perceptive . I have one qustion whats with the facination with gay comics your a women your not gay and the ones you like are useally with male charactors (nothing wrong with that ) lol I'm just wondering thanks again .

  • Sorry everyone! We had LT chained up in her home perfecting the CGS Ep.50 Retrospective. After 32 tries and weeks living on fig newtons and Fanta she finally got it right.

So we now return her to her regularly scheduled podcast!

  • Lene, I think you're heading in a popular but illogical direction with the "rescue the comic shop" thing. I think the real answer is to add some level of browsability to the online shops. Comic books are a niche market, and there are lots of areas with no good shops. With the high population of comic fans nation- and world-wide, the stocking issue is better online. Pricing might get better.

I've had too many bad experiences with "pull box" systems and special ordering in three different cities to think that's really the way to go. I want a shop that has M-DC-Vertigo and indie comics AND more manga selection than Tokyopop. I don't think I'm going to find that at more than a handful of shops nationwide. Besides, online shopping means not getting hit on or given the defensive "eek, a girl!" by the fellow customers or employees. That would be nice.

Keep up the 'cast. You're great!

  • My solution for making comics shops more hospitable to women is to merge them into a kind of Comics Spa. Y'know, a place where you can pick up your pull and read it while getting a pedicure and leg wax.

I realize this idea is probably ahead of its time, but someone has to think these thoughts.

  • Hey LT I know the ep is a bit old but have you tried Isotope up there in the CiTY.... I have never been but it always has pretty good buzz.... I miss Comics and Comix in Berkeley oh my childhood
