  • Well Lene, I guess it's a sign that you've hit the big time when someone takes the time to spam your blog?

    uh... congratualtions... I guess...

Seriously, I can't wait to listen to the show. Normally I listen to podcasts on my commute in and out of the garden state, but I think I'm going to go to iTunes now and listen while I put together KK today.

Also, great job on the "roast" intro to episode 50 of Comic Geek Speak.

  • Thanks, Matthew! I'm going to talk about some trades (oldies but goodies) in the next show. Doing the CGS intro was fun! I hear there may be another one in the works...

  • Sorry everyone! We had LT chained up in her home perfecting the CGS Ep.50 Retrospective. After 32 tries and weeks living on fig newtons and Fanta she finally got it right.

So we now return her to her regularly scheduled podcast!

  • Lene, I think you're heading in a popular but illogical direction with the "rescue the comic shop" thing. I think the real answer is to add some level of browsability to the online shops. Comic books are a niche market, and there are lots of areas with no good shops. With the high population of comic fans nation- and world-wide, the stocking issue is better online. Pricing might get better.

I've had too many bad experiences with "pull box" systems and special ordering in three different cities to think that's really the way to go. I want a shop that has M-DC-Vertigo and indie comics AND more manga selection than Tokyopop. I don't think I'm going to find that at more than a handful of shops nationwide. Besides, online shopping means not getting hit on or given the defensive "eek, a girl!" by the fellow customers or employees. That would be nice.

Keep up the 'cast. You're great!

  • My solution for making comics shops more hospitable to women is to merge them into a kind of Comics Spa. Y'know, a place where you can pick up your pull and read it while getting a pedicure and leg wax.

I realize this idea is probably ahead of its time, but someone has to think these thoughts.
