  • Great show, but you're still off on Molly Kiely's legal history. Here's the short version of the "Answer Me #4" (The Rape Issue) obscenity trial:

"In 1996, Molly was called as a defense witness in the pornography trial of owner Ira Stohl and manager Kristina Hjelsand of Newsstand International in Bellingham, Washington. They were charged with promotion of pornography, which can carry a five year jail sentence and up to $10,000 in fines. The charge was brought by the Whatcom County prosecutor, based on a complaint by a local college student, for selling Answer Me! #4, also known as "the Rape Issue". Molly's two page strip, "I Was a Teenage Victim of Anal Date Rape", is the tamest thing in it."

"Answer Me 4" used to be online, but I recently saw that it had a deluxe republication somewhere.

  • On Russia's lack of ability invading Afghanistan.....Rusia did invade Afghanistan in 1979.

  • Yes, I know Russia invaded Afghaistan. It was a disaster of the highest order. My point was more that in the mid 1980s, Russia was not the communist threat it was portrayed as by the US government. They were barely able to survive with a crumbling infrastructure; they weren't about to take over the world or engage the US in nuclear armageddon.

  • Just a quick tip after listening to your podcast for the first time -- there's a new book out which you might like, a graphic-novel adaptation of "The Wizard of Oz," written and drawn by Michael Cavallaro. I know you're not big on amazon, but you can at least look up the ISBN here. :)

  • hey just listened to your show for the very first time and i have to say i really really liked it. It was very refreshing to hear a woman's POV on all things comics, especially on something like watchmen. i'm curious if you've heard the news about the possible big screen edition, and what your opinion on the matter is. Also I found a site that is preordering the watchmen absolute edition for 56 bucks. not as good as amazon, but better than the street price. i guess this might have been better as an email than a comment. oh well.

  • i guess it would have been helpful if i had added the link for the watchmen pre-order. sorry.

  • Hi, I came across your podcast on iTunes. I just wanted to leave a comment here letting you know that you've got another fan. I heard your comment about comic stores in your area not being very female-friendly. I used to shop at Comic Relief, and I agree it is wonderful, but I didn't find other shops in the Bay all that bad. What about them turned you off?

Also, have you checked out Fake or Gravitation? Those are some of my fave gay mangas at the moment.

Anyway, congrats on the podcast. I think you make a wonderful antidote to Fanboy Radio, which is the other comic podcast I listen to.

  • LT,

Any chance you can post a link to the online comic database you mentioned in a recent podcast? I can't seem to locate the reference, and would like to check it out.

    Thanks,

    Markie

  • Hi! I recently discovered your podcast on iTunes and have been listening through the archives. I just wanted to point out that Magneto is not in the Frightful Four in that FF/Spider-Man team up; that's the Wizard, who has always been the leader of the Frightful Four as far as I know. Great podcast, I'll keep listening!
